Northern Tier High Adventure 2006
By Jon Matson
We are back from the northern tier high adventure national scout base in northern Minnesota.
During our trip we completed a 100 mile trek by canoe. In seven days we canoed 31 different
lakes and portaged 29 times. Each night we camped at a different lake frequently on islands.
On the first day we crossed the border into Canada into Quetico Provincial Wilderness Park.
Quetico has 2700 lakes so we rarely saw people outside of our group.
The first picture is at the canoe base shortly after our arrival. The second is at our first
portage entering Canada (yes there is someone stationed at this remote location which is
accessible only by canoe). The third is a typical lake scene. Our scouts (and adults)
learned a great deal from the experience.
